The Knicks are likely thankful for two things after Wednesday’s victory: Tyrese Maxey’s bad right hand (he shot 0-of-10 from three) and Brunson. “Captain Clutch” went on a personal 9-0 run during the fourth quarter to save the Knicks from what would have been an embarrassing defeat, especially after getting blown out by the Cavaliers and Celtics over the weekend. After dishing out all seven of his assists during the first quarter, Brunson was ultra-aggressive as a scorer in crunch time to get the Knicks back into the win column.

Hukporti has been sidelined since February with a torn meniscus, but there is a chance he is available against Detroit. However, he won’t see the floor in a playoff game regardless of his health.

Despite the Knicks securing the third seed in the East on Friday, McBride played 30 minutes as Josh Hart’s replacement in the starting lineup in Brooklyn. He had a good afternoon for fantasy managers in active leagues, providing solid value in points, rebounds, assists, steals and three-pointers. McBride’s role will be different when the playoffs begin next weekend, but his scoring ability will be critical off the bench.

The Knicks rested four starters for Sunday’s game, including Jalen Brunson, so Payne was in the starting lineup. As is usually the case for the veteran backup, it was an adventure, but he made big plays on both ends of the court down the stretch to get New York its 51st win. Payne will return to the bench for the playoffs, which the Knicks will begin on Saturday or Sunday when the Pistons visit for Game 1.

As expected, Young will be good to go for Atlanta’s play-in matchup. Young had 28 points before being ejected from Tuesday’s game against the Magic. The Hawks will need him to be even better (and for him to be available for the whole game) if they want to advance to play the Cavaliers in the first round.

Sheppard miss Indiana’s final five games of the regular season, but he should be available for their first game of the postseason. Sheppard should fill out a large reserve role and provide some floor spacing. He averaged 5.8 points in 17.7 minutes per game during their first round series against the Bucks last year.

Charania also noted that if this was a regular season game, Morant likely wouldn’t be playing. It is a “severe” ankle sprain, though he has never wavered from his stance that he will play against Dallas. The injection should help ease the pain, but it also establishes just how severe the injury is. Still, in an elimination game, Morant will play as much as he needs to in order to get Memphis to the playoffs.
