After a rough 2023-24 campaign, Poole has been much-improved, even if the strides taken have not resulted in more wins for the Wizards. He’s provided top-50 value in eight-cat formats, something few (if any) fantasy managers expected. With Wednesday’s effort, Poole has scored 20-plus points in consecutive games for the first time since February 7-8, and he has been a top-40 player over the past three weeks in eight-cat. Even better for fantasy managers is that Poole and the Wizards end Week 17 with a game against the Hornets on Saturday.

While Johnson’s inclusion in the Kyle Kuzma trade did not draw much attention then, the move east gave him a shot at consistent rotation minutes. The rookie guard averaged 27 minutes per game in his 22 appearances for the Wizards. While Johnson’s fantasy value remained extremely low, the chances of earning a rotation spot in Washington next season are far more realistic than they would have been in Milwaukee.

Wizards fans who began Sunday hoping to see their team strengthen their odds of landing the first overall pick in this summer’s draft may not have been thrilled with Carrington’s heroics. However, it was a nice end to a difficult season for the rookie guard. Bub didn’t shoot the ball well in Miami but made the decisive play when it mattered most. Carrington also made some history on Sunday, becoming the first Wizards rookie to play all 82 games since Jeff Ruland in 1981-82. Carrington made 57 starts this season; holding onto that role would raise Bub’s fantasy ceiling in 2025-26, but he’ll need to shoot better than 40.3 percent from the floor to be a useful fantasy player.

Like fellow reserve Tristan Vukcevic, Jones experienced an increase in playing time due to the starter’s minutes being limited. Kyshawn George (5/2/1 with one three-pointer) played 15 minutes, with Jones being the beneficiary on a day when Washington only played seven. The second-year wing recorded his first career double-double, with the stat line including a career-high 10 rebounds. While George appears to have the edge regarding 2025-26 fantasy value, Jones is worth watching during Summer League play. The move from Sacramento to Washington has resulted in him receiving more opportunities to play, which he needed.

Having suffered an oblique injury during Sunday’s loss to the Grizzlies, Williams was a game-time decision for Wednesday’s play-in tournament matchup. Not only did he play, but he flourished, giving the Mavericks excellent minutes off the bench. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd went ten deep with his rotation, preferring Williams over Spencer Dinwiddie, who only played the final two minutes, and the approach worked. The Mavericks visit Memphis on Friday, with the winner earning the eighth seed in the West.

Thompson did not enter the play-in tournament in good form, scoring 13 points on 5-of-16 shooting in his final two regular-season appearances. The veteran sharpshooter found his groove on Wednesday, especially during the second quarter. Shooting 5-of-5 from the field with four three-pointers, Thompson scored 16 points in a quarter the Mavericks won by a 44-19 margin. This version of Thompson is the one the Mavericks will need on Friday as they visit Memphis with the eighth seed in the West going to the winner.

Irving tore the ACL in his left knee on March 3, ending his season. He has a player option worth $44 million next season, but Charania reported that the Mavericks would like to tear up that deal to give the point guard a three-year extension this summer. That approach would align Irving with Anthony Davis and GM Nico Harrison regarding the remaining years on their respective contracts. With Spencer Dinwiddie being a free agent this summer, whoever else is in the Mavericks’ point guard rotation may have higher value to begin the season due to Irving’s injury.
