John Metchie

John Metchie

HOUWR • #8

Bleacher Reports’ Jordan Schultz reports, “Multiple teams have reached out to the Texans to see if WR John Metchie III would be available in a trade due to the plethora of receivers on their roster.”

Metchie caught 10 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown in the preseason and appears to be fully back after missing all of 2022 while battling leukemia. The former second-rounder is, at best, fourth on the Texans’ receiver depth chart and won’t be in line for much playing time as long as Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell are healthy. Metchie caught 16 passes for 158 scoreless yards last season while playing 44.5 percent of his snaps from the slot, per PFF. In college, Metchie played primarily out wide, and at 5-foot-11, 187 pounds, he has the size to play out wide or in the slot as a pro. There are a handful of teams who could put Metchie to work as a starter if the Texans are willing to part with him. This remains a situation to watch with roster cutdowns looming.
