After not seeing much meaningful playing time over his first four seasons with the Huskies, Hampton (6’2/215) would start 26 of his final 27 games with the team. The former three-star recruit had a team leading 109 total tackles, three INT’s and 7 pass breakups during the 2023 season. He has all the physical tools to play in the NFL, being a full sized safety at 215 lbs and running a 4.51s 40-time. He played 12 of his 15 games at SS during his final season, showing that he was trusted to handle tight ends in man coverage. As a zone defender, he reads the field well and is best when he can sit high and diagnose the play. Despite having the physical tools and some zone coverage acumen, he earned an underwhelming 67.4 PFF grade in coverage. Hampton takes inefficient paths to the ball, and doesn’t consistently put himself in a good position to make a tackle. He has lengthy 33 ¼ inch arms and should easily be able to wrap up ball carriers, but is often taken out of position by juke moves. His traits will make him an enticing special teams option for Washington in 2023. He could step into coverage reps in a year or two.
