It’s been a nightmare season for Samuel and things got much worse before kickoff when San Francisco was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. While it may not make 49ers fans feel much better, they were treated to vintage Deebo this week. Samuel served as the change-of-pace back behind Patrick Taylor and averaged a respectable five yards per carry. Even more impressive was his touchdown grab. Brock Purdy hit him on a shallow crossing route and Samuel plunged through a pair of Miami defenders, sending them to the turf as he pushed his way into the end zone. Samuel was slippery in space and rarely went down on first contact, traits he’s struggled to establish this year. Even with nothing left to play for, the 49ers should put up plenty of points in a likely shootout with the Lions next week, putting Samuel on the WR2/3 border.
