Justin Fields

Justin Fields

NYJQB • #2

Jets general manager Darren Mougey said that Justin Fields is the team’s starter and that Tyrod Taylor will be “right on his heels.”

Credit to Mougey for keeping things fun. Taylor is highly unlikely to challenge Fields for the starting role but is clearly valued heavily by the Jets’ locker room. Fields received a two-year, $40 million contract that indicated he would be given the starting role, but it also falls short of being an outright, serious commitment. Mougey reportedly said that the hope is for Fields to pull a career turnaround similar to what we saw from Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold. Things can always change, but drafting a rookie quarterback does not appear imminent for the Jets.
