Steelers owner Art Rooney said he anticipates the team signing Russell Wilson or Justin Fields this offseason.

Bringing back both quarterbacks could prove difficult, but it sounds as if Rooney is fine with moving on from one of the two signal-callers either way. Wilson has been closely linked to the Raiders since they went out and hired Pete Carroll as their head coach, but any talks about a reunion between Wilson and Carroll are pure speculation at this point. Fields played well during his six starts with the Steelers, leading the team to a 4-2 record while throwing for 1106-5-1 on the year and rushing for another 201 yards and five touchdowns. How the coaching staff’s decision to bench him may play into his desire to re-up with the team is to be determined, but the Steelers may be the only team willing to hand Fields a starting job entering camp, which could spur a decision. Rooney also said he wants to sign a quarterback to more than a one-year deal, which could also entice Fields or Wilson to come back. Currently holding the No. 21 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, it seems unlikely that the Steelers will find their solution at quarterback in the draft, which could make Fields/Wilson their best options for next season.
