Higgins is currently franchise-tagged and will be playing out 2024 under the franchise tag, barring an extension. That extension isn’t expected to come this offseason, however, as the Bengals look to keep any cap space beyond this season free for the impending extension to Ja’Marr Chase and the increase that will take effect for Joe Burrow when his $25.250 million base salary for next year kicks in. It’s possible Higgins and the Bengals will eventually come to terms on a long-term deal, but Chase is, in all likelihood, the top priority. Higgins requested a trade from the Bengals back in mid-March, but this latest quote at least hints at a willingness to play on the tag. We’ll see if that holds come training camp.
