Caleb Williams completed 23-of-37 passes for 174 yards and two interceptions in the Bears’ 19-13, Week 2 loss to the Texans, adding 44 yards on five carries.

The preseason struggles of the offensive line continued forward into Week 2 as Williams took seven sacks and threw two interceptions against a stingy, zone-heavy Texans defense. Even so, the Bears were within striking distance throughout on the backs of their defense, getting the ball back with under two minutes remaining with a chance to drive the field and sneak out with another late victory. Penalties also plagued the Bears under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football as the team committed nine infractions for 60 yards on the evening. Either way, that now marks two consecutive shaky outings for the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, with the Bears stealing a win away from the Titans on the backs of two second half defensive scores in Week 1. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has to take some of the brunt here as his offense has looked flat and uninspiring through two games, something he and Williams need to correct if this team is to turn the corner this season. Up next for the 1-1 Bears is a road date with the Colts in Week 3.
