The Giants scored three touchdowns and the Commanders didn’t find the end zone once. Somehow, the Giants still lost. Kicker Graham Gano suffered a hamstring issue on the opening kickoff and missed the remainder of the game. Punter Reggie Gilliam missed the first PAT of the day and then the Giants went for two points on their next two touchdowns, neither of which found paydirt. Jones also led a drive to the Commanders’ 22-yard line late in the game but was forced to go for it on fourth down because a field goal wasn’t an option. The Giants didn’t pick up the first down and Washington scored a game-winning field goal on the next drive. Jones peppered Malik Nabers with an absurd 18 targets this week and protected the ball, taking just one sack and committing zero turnovers. With his job already on the line, Jones appears to understand the assignment. He’s nothing more than a QB2 heading into Week 3, but he should be able to game-manage his way to at least a few more starts.
