Mixon will turn 28 at the start of next season and will earn $13 million in guaranteed money. The Texans acquired Mixon for draft picks earlier this week, as the former Bengal, who has totaled 1,200-plus yards from scrimmage in each of his last three seasons, will now be under contract through 2027. Mixon will get $10 million in the first year of his deal, but for a back who is already past the age apex, committing significant cap space to him beyond this season is somewhat puzzling. We’ll see how things shape up a year from now, but Mixon averaged just 2.51 YCO/ATT last season and saw 16.2 percent of his rushing yards come on breakaway runs — a new career-low. This move gives shades of David Johnson, without the whole “trading away an All-Pro receiver in his prime” thing.
